Music is just this awesome thing for me. I first picked up a guitar when I was 9 years old. I wrote my first song when I was 26 years old.
Why the gap? I didn't fall fully in love until I was 26 years old - and because it didn't work out I started writing songs.
Music for me is about getting out in the open all the stuff I feel inside - cliched but actually it's true.
My musical taste is about as broad as you could possibly imagine. Anything goes: Kings of Leon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Adele, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Puccini, Dixie Chicks - the list is virtually endless. Its basically a Radio 2 play list!
For me it has to have melody and preferably, but not always, a chorus. More abstract is fine too - but not to chill too, not to put the foot down with the hood open on a sunny autumn day.
By writing, arranging and producing my own and co-written music I get the opportunity to listen to music that puts a big grin on my face - everytime.
That's pretty good by me.
Badly Tuned Guitar is the astounding group of musicians that I record with.
Chris Howard - polymath musician extraordinaire;
Emily Jackson - the greatest backing vocalist the Good Lord placed on this little, blue planet of ours;
Jamie Parkes - The fiddle player (nothing more needs said)
Banjo Dan Walsh - just awesome, really awesome.
And a big thank you to Richard Matthews for some amazing lap steel on 2000 Monkeys.
A huge thanks to all of you.
For the last while Emily Jackson and Helen Monks have been doing their best to turn an emotionally leaking Northern Irish pub voice into something that is naked and expressive of the meaning in the lyric. Their patience is extraordinary. Their skill sets incredible. Thank you both.
Finally all the CD art work is by me. I hope you like it.
